My learning process in English this semester

This semester has been great. I learned how write different types of text: expositive, narrative, descriptive and argumentative. In addiction I had the opportunity to create my own blog. This was fun because I could express myself and talk about my favorite subject: the movies.

Expositive text

Why the text Creatures Clone Selves in Face of Danger is expositive?
Clara Moskowitz is a LiveScience staff writer. She wrote a text about the sand dollar larvae, which copy themselves when they sense predators near. This text is expositive for many reasons. One of them is that the author is objective and precise. In addiction the text basically is a series of explications and descriptions about how the sand dollar larvae created clone of themselves.

A great image of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Harry Potter films are based on a series of seven fantasy novels written by J. K. Rowling. Harry Potter is a young wizard and he is a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main argument of the story is the Harry's struggle against the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents in his quest to conquer the wizarding world and subjugate non-magical (Muggle) people to his rule. Harry Potter is very famous around the world.

The image above belongs to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This movie is the fifth of the series and is about the return of Lord Voldemort the most evil wizard of all times.

We can see in this image a battle between Voldemort and Harry. In the right side of the image is Harry with his best friends: Ron, Hermione, Neville, Luna and Ginny. All of them are wearing the Hogwarts uniform. In the left side is Lord Voldemort with his most faithful followers: Lucius and Bellatrix.

The boy with glasses in the center of the right side is Harry. The boy with red hair next to him is Ron and the girl with brown and curly hair is Hermione. In the back the tall boy is Neville, the blonde is Luna and the other girl is Ginny.

The horrible man in the center of the left side is Lord Voldemort. The man with long hair next to him is Lucius. Lucius is holding a blue sphere. This sphere contains a prophecy about the destiny of Harry and Lord Voldemort. The ugly woman with curly and black hair is Bellatrix. In the back are a couple of terrifying ghosts.

This image represents the most important scene of the film and has been used in many posters, wallpapers, t – shirts, notebooks and many other objects.

The second parts aren´t bad
Around the world many film writers, producers and directors say that when a movie is successful the sequel is very bad, you probably think the same and for that reason you don’t go to the movies to see a sequel but are a lot of examples that proves the sequels aren´t bad.

The Terminator is a 1984 science fiction film directed and co-written by James Cameron. This movie is about unstoppable android assassin (The Terminator) who has been sent back from the year 2029. The Terminator's mission is to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) whose future son leads a resistance against the machines. The Terminator received positive reviews and was placed in Time Magazine's Top 10 Films of 1984 but The Terminator 2: Judgment Day was much better.

The Terminator 2: Judgment Day received a lot of awards. It was a box-office success, earning $204.8 million in the United States alone, and was the highest grossing film of 1991. The original Terminator grossed only $38 million in the U.S. in its theatrical run, making Terminator 2's 434% increase a record for a sequel. Also was placed #33 on Total Film's 2006 list of The Top 100 Films of All Time.

Shrek is a 2001 computer-animated American comedy film, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. The film is about a large, strong, solitude, intimidating but loving ogre named Shrek. This film received a lot of good critics and was the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, a category introduced in 2001. However Sherk 2 was well received by a number of critics, many rating it as good as its predecessor, and some rated it even better.

Spider-Man is a 2002 based on the fictional Marve Comics character Spider-Man. The film was directed by Sam Raimi. This movie was extremely well received but the sequel Spider - Man 2 won the Academy Award for Visual Effects, and was nominated for Sound and Sound Editing.

Terminator 2, Sherk 2 and Spider-Man 2 are three examples of successful sequels. The three won a lot of awards and were well received by the public this proves that the second parts can be great.
